Update: The Election Commission has clarified that it has not yet decided if Prime Minister Narendra Modi violated the Model Code of Conduct by announcing on TV, radio and social media the success of the Mission Shakti anti-satellite missile test. The EC is yet to get the analysis of the Committee of Officers it constituted on Wednesday to examine the matter.

Original report: The Election Commission of India on Friday gave Prime Minister Narendra Modi a clean chit on his address to the nation on Wednesday, during which he announced the successful test of "Mission Shakti".

The poll panel had set up a committee to examine possible violation of the model code of conduct following a complaint by multiple opposition parties, who questioned the timing of the announcement.

In his address on Wednesday, Modi had announced a successful test of the Anti-Satellite Missile (A-SAT), saying it had shot down a live satellite. The move put India on a pedestal only held by a few countries like the US and China.
