Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday lashed out at opposition parties alleging that they were spreading lies on Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and anarchy in the country with their "falsehood". He said that this act is about giving citizenship rights and not taking it away from anyone in the country.

Addressing a gathering in state capital Gandhinagar where he inaugurated various state police projects, Shah said that "lies" are being spread by those under whose rule Gujarat used to have "frequent curfew, stabbing incidents and attack on Jagannath Yatra processions". He said that "the BJP brought law and order and turned Gujarat into a developed state. It is now one of the three most developed states in the country."

He said that CAA is to grant Citizenship to persecuted minorities who have been living a measurable life in India for 70 years, deprived of school, college and basic facilities.

In his speech, Shah lambasted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejariwal and left party leaders for spreading "falsehood." He dared them to point out provisions that take away citizenship in public debates. Shah appealed to activists of his party and affiliated organisations to reach out to every household and "bust the lies" around the CAA.

Shah participated in the ninth convocation of Gujarat Technological University in Gandhinagar where he told students to aim big. He appealed to students to focus on research and development, and on their careers.

Shah told students to shun negativity being spread in the country. He said: "From 1947 to 2014 India became 2 trillion dollar economy and from 2014 to 2019, under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the economy rose to $3 trillion. By 2024, we will make it a $5 trillion industry for sure."
