From the rooftop, a thank you note that says it all

This is one thank you note that, perhaps, captured the essence of the massive rescue operations taken up in Kerala’s flooded regions.

THANKS, in bold white, was painted on the rooftop of a house in an unidentified location near Kochi, indicating what is reported as gratitude to the Indian Navy personnel who evacuated stranded people from the location.

The note was photographed by a news agency and later, the Indian Navy spokesperson shared the image on Twitter. “A Thank You note painted on the roof of a house where the Naval ALH piloted by Cdr Vijay Varma rescued two women. Bravo...” the spokesperson tweeted on Monday.

On Friday, the Navy had airlifted a heavily pregnant woman from the terrace of a flooded building in Chengamanadu near Aluva, in Ernakulam district.

Later in the day, the woman — identified as Sajitha Jabil — delivered a boy at INHS Sanjivani, the naval hospital in Kochi.

On Monday, video footage of another challenging airlift was shared on the Navy spokesperson’s Twitter handle. “Wheelchair-bound (paralysed below the waist) pregnant lady being winched up to safety in a very challenging hover by Captain P Rajkumar Shaurya Chakra. Location is somewhere in the north of Aluva,” the spokesperson tweeted.

At 10.30 am on Monday, naval teams were stationed in 11 flood-hit locations.
