The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala suffered a setback as Prakash Babu, the party's candidate from Kozhikode was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days by a local court in connection with the protests and violence at Sabarimala premises.

Babu also has 8 other cases including attempt to murder filed against him.

The BJP, which is trying to open its account in Kerala has taken an aggressive stand against the entry of women in the 10-50 age group into the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple.

Sabarimala has been at the eye of the storm ever since the Supreme Court in its judgement held that the ban imposed on women over entry into the temple of Lord Ayyappa on the basis of physiological condition amounted to gender discrimination.

Lok Sabha polls are scheduled in Kerala for April 23.
