'Superstitious' KCR may dissolve Assembly on Thursday

Known for his penchant for Vastu and Astrology, Telangana Chief Minister and TRS President Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao may dissolve the Telangana Assembly on 6 September before noon to seek early elections in the state. A cabinet meeting was called and ministers and lawmakers were told to finish programmes at hand in their constituencies and be ready for the big decision.

If dissolved, Telangana’s first Assembly go into history as not having completed its first full term. The state was formed on June 2, 2014, and the first government led by KCR also assumed office on the same day.

Statewide campaign

The Chief Minister will launch his statewide campaign starting Friday from Husnabad. Friday was considered auspicious, particularly with the current month being Sravanam. Also, Husnabad is believed to have been found Vastu compliant for the launch of the party’s campaign being located in the northeast corner of the state. Over one lakh people were expected to attend the first meeting named “Prajala Asservada Sabha”. The TRS will hold 100 such public meetings in 50 days beginning this Friday.

If the all the indications lead to dissolution of the Assembly which has one more year of time, then Telangana might go for elections in December along with the four other states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. Unconfirmed reports indicate that Chief Minister would proceed to Raj Bhavan immediately after state cabinet on early Thursday morning to submit a letter to Governor ESL Narasimhan for dissolution of the Assembly.

Chief Minister has closeted with senior party leaders at his farmhouse at Erravelli village of Gajwel in Siddipet district a day after the Kongara Kalan public meeting a place of sentiment for KCR. At the public meeting, he hinted that a decision on dissolution of the Assembly will be taken shortly.

In quick succession, Government chief secretary SK Joshi met with chief adviser to government, Rajeev Sharma, CM’s principal secretary Narsinga Rao, Assembly secretary Narasimhacharyulu and a few others. State chief electoral officer Rajat Kumar also had a meeting with some senior officials. They all met Governor Narasimhan. Rajeev Sharma is leaving for New Delhi on Wednesday.

While Telangana TDP declared that it will be contesting for all the seats, BJP president Amit Shah and Congress president Rahul Gandhi will also address few meetings.
