Amidst rising Covid-19 cases and the increasing crowd in public places, the Maharashtra government has decided to clamp “night curfew” in the state starting Sunday (March 28).
The Chief Minister’s Office said that from starting Sunday during the nights “prohibitory orders” would be in place till further orders.
Besides, a possible lockdown in selected areas has not been ruled out.
“The increasing number of cases is a cause of concern,” Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said. “I do not want to impose lockdown,” he said, however, cautioned that in the wake of rising cases the health infrastructure may fall short. “All districts must beef up their health infrastructure and bed strength,” he directed.
A detailed notification is expected shortly by the Maharashtra Disaster Management Authority.
The decision was taken at a meeting in which all Divisional Commissioners, District Collectors, Municipal Commissioners, Police Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, District Civil Surgeons and members of the Covid-19 Task Force were present.
Public Health and Family Welfare Minister Rajesh Tope, Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh and top bureaucrats were also present.
