The Centre has launched Aadhaar-based authentication for 18 services offered by Regional Transport Offices (RTO) that includes driving license services, driving license renewal and vehicle registration, among others.
As per notification by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), public do not need to visit RTO office for several services as they can do it online using Aadhaar authentication.
The earlier draft order stated that the people could link their driving license and RC (registration certificate) with their Aadhaar number.
Services that include getting learner’s license, renewal of driving license, change of address in driving license, duplicate driving license, availing an international driving permit, applying for temporary registration, applying for registration, obtaining RC or surrendering driving license can be obtained without visiting RTO office.
"Any individual desirous of availing various contactless services, through the portal, is required to undergo Aadhaar authentication," the ministry said in its notification.
"Provided that till the time Aadhaar is assigned to the individual, benefits of contactless services shall be given to such individual subject to the production of Aadhaar Enrolment ID slip," it further stated.
