Google's Area 120 brings AI-based document scanner app Stack

Google's in-house tech incubator Area 120 has launched an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered mobile application Stack that offers to help people easily scan and store receipts. And, if you ever decide to return a product and have lost the physical bill, the digital copy will save you the trouble of ransacking the room to find the actual receipt.

Christopher Pedregal, the team lead at Stack says that the app is intelligent enough to understand the types of bills and categorise them accordingly for easy access in the future.

Users just have to take a photo of the document and Stack will scan it, automatically name it for the user, and suggest the right category termed as 'stack,'-- such as a receipt, vehicle, IDs and Bills— for the user to store it in.

If the user scanned a water bill using Stack, the application is capable of identifying important information in the document such as 'due date' or 'total amount due'. In the future, it can pull it out to make it easier to find and access.

Users can also search through the full text of your documents (not just the title) to quickly find what you need.

With user privacy being an important aspect for mobile users, Stack offers biometric security protection. It offers the option to unlock the app with a facial or fingerprint recognition system of the phone.

As of now, Google's Stack is available only in the US on Play store. If the app receives good reception, it is expected to be made available in other regions; just like Google Pay first introduced in India, got released in global markets.
