Two tourists from Kerala were killed when a huge tree uprooted and fell on them, due to high-velocity winds and rain at KRS in Srirangapatna taluk of Mandya district, on Tuesday. Three sustained serious injuries in the mishap.

The deceased have been identified as Vinod (32) and Ilaru (34). They had taken shelter under a tree due to sudden rain. According to police, the tree fell on an electric pole and the duo may have been electrocuted.

Electric pole falls on bus

Around 80 passengers travelling in a KSRTC bus had a miraculous escape after an electricity pole fell on the vehicle on Holalu Road in the town on Monday night. A major tragedy was averted since there was no power supply.

A huge tree fell on an electric cable bringing down 38 electricity poles following high-velocity winds in Mandya on Monday night. An electricity pole slowly leaned on the bus even as it entered Holalu Road. The passengers screamed fearing that they would suffer electric shock, but heaved a sigh of relief after coming to know that there was no power supply. They later took private vans and autos to reach their destination.
