Air India commenced Airbus A319 services between Bengaluru and Belagavi on Friday. The maiden flight received an overwhelming response from passengers both from and towards Bengaluru.

On its arrival at the Sambra airport, the Airbus was given a water cannon salute and passengers were welcomed. The maiden Airbus A319 flight carried 83 passengers from Bengaluru to Belagavi on Friday morning and flew back 104 passengers to Bengaluru from Belagavi.

This Airbus service will operate every Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. After SpiceJet shifted its operations to Hubballi to avail the benefits of the Udaan Scheme in July, there were no flights to Bengaluru from the Sambra airport here.

Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Air India, commenced services from July 10 (thrice a week) with an ATR aircraft. Now, with Air India commencing flights, Belagavi has air connectivity to Bengaluru, all seven days of the week.

Air India officials stated that based on the response from passengers, a decision would be taken on increasing services to and from Bengaluru.
