A woman from Allapura in Kundgol taluk on Sunday fulfilled a strange vow by getting her 18-month-old son rolled in plantain leaf placed on embers of charcoal.
Susheela had taken a vow for placing the baby on the embers of Bibi Fatima Panja in Allapura village on the occasion of Muharram if she begets a male child and it survives.
The woman had no children for five years and the three that were born had died prematurely.
She had taken the vow on the occasion of Muharram last year.
At 6 am on Sunday, the baby was handed over to the head of the shrine, who rolled it in plantain leaf and flowers and placed it over the embers for a couple of minutes.
