Plaint against CM for ‘violating’ poll code

Last Updated 17 December 2018, 16:15 IST

Accusing Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy of violating the Model Code of Conduct, the state BJP on Saturday sought the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to initiate action against him.

In their complaint to CEO Sanjiv Kumar, BJP leaders A H Anand and Dattaguru Hegde have said that Kumaraswamy violated the poll code during an election campaign in Mandya on Friday.

The complainants said that Kumaraswamy had assured the gathering that the government would issue the debt-free certificates to beneficiaries of the loan waiver scheme, soon after the bypolls.

Charging that the government was resorting to election gimmicks to influence the electorate ahead of the bypolls, the duo have also sought the CEO to direct Kumaraswamy to restrain from making any further announcements.

Bypolls to the three Lok Sabha and two Assembly segments will be held on November 3.
