Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and his wife Anitha Kumaraswamy offered bagina to the Harangi reservoir on Thursday. Earlier, he offered pooja to the statue of Cauvery near the crest gate of the reservoir.

The chief minister was accompanied by Public Works Minister H D Revanna, Minister for Irrigation and Medical Education D K Shivakumar, Tourism Minister Sa Ra Mahesh, MLAs K G Bopaiah, Appacchu Ranjan, A T Ramaswamy and MLC S L Bhoje Gowda. Speaking to media persons, he said, “Kodagu received bountiful rain after 35 years. The rain has caused extensive damage in the district. The government will respond to the woes of the people of Kodagu — the birthplace of River Cauvery which supplies water to the state.”

Noting that over 2,000 electricity poles had been uprooted, disrupting power supply in several villages in the district, the chief minister said additional staff from Hassan and Mysuru district would be deployed to restore the power supply.

The work on relief measures is in progress, Kumaraswamy said. The chief minister will offer special pooja at Talacauvery at 6.30 am on Friday. He will also visit Bhagandeshwara temple at Bhagamandala. Kumaraswamy had offered bagina at Talacauvery during the tenure of the BJP-JD(S) coalition government in 2007.
