When media persons approached BJP City unit chief B P Manjunath, he was still hopeful of his party’s victory, as still 10,000 votes had to be counted. He, in a sarcastic tone said ‘It is only media which plays a pivotal role both in the victory and defeat of a candidate,’ indicating that he too has already accepted the outcome, which was negative.

At the same time, it was vice-versa in the camp of Congress, who had already started to convey victory message over their cellphones.

When Vishwanath arrived at the venue, the elated workers, surrounded him renting victory slogans, violating the norms of the Election Commission.

According to the norm, the victory marches are prohibited in the 200 metres radius of the counting centres. Though the cops made a bid to convince the jubilant workers of Congress party, they were in no mood to pay heed to their words.

It took nearly, 20 minutes for Vishwanath to tread the distance of a few metres to reach the temporary chamber of Deputy Commissioner P Manivannan, who is also the Mysore district election officer.

In the meantime, fire crackers were burst at the circle beside the counting centre on Bogadi road, again violating the norm.
