Chikmagalur decked up in Saffron for Datta Jayanthi

Saffron flags with symbol of ‘om’, banners, buntings and electrical lighting have been put up to beautify the town by Sangh Parivar. While MG Road has been painted saffron with banners, Hanumanthappa circle has been lit to perfection. Vijayapura main road, Basavanahalli road, IG Road, MG Road too have been embellished as part of the celebration.

Security

Many people in the city are of the opinion that the preparations of Datta Jayanthi is bringing back the memories of 1998 Datta Jayanthi. Looking at the enthusiasm of the Sangh Parivar this year, police too have beefed up the security arrangements accordingly.

Police personnel from various districts who have come to the city to perform their duty at Bababudangiri as well as in the city will be here from November 29 to December 2. This year as many as 3,500 police personnel will be deputed on duty including 9 Deputy Superintendent of Police, 36 CPI, 18 PSI, 145 ASI, 448 HC, 1396 PC, 82 WPC, 500 Home Guards and 18 KSRP and 20 District Armed Reserve platoons. Out posts have been put up at all the major roads and en route Datta Peeta. The out post near Mountain View is already functional. District administration has appointed 18 special magistrates.

Vehicles will be allowed to take pilgrims to Datta peeta on December 1 from 6 am to 2 pm and back from the hill from 2 pm onwards. This restriction on movement of vehicles has been put as it is found that the road to the hill is weak.

Further district administration has banned sale of liquor within 5 km radius of the Datta peeta to ensure no untoward incidents occur during the celebrations. Anasuya Devi puja, Ganapathy Homa, Durga Homa will be held on November 29 at Datta peeta. Sankeerthana Yathra will be held at 7.30 am.  Shobha Yathra will commence from Kamadhenu Ganapathy temple on November 30 at 2 pm.

Guidelines

* Shobhayathre should end by 7 pm on Nov 30

* No crackers can be burst during the procession

* No instigative banners can be put up

* No provocative slogans

* Disciplinary action incase of violation
