Football: NIE edges past VVCE

Thirty teams participate in inter-collegiate Mysore zone tournament

In the penalty shoot-out, Captain Abdul Rahaman opened the scoring for NIE with Nikhil Eappen, Sachin.

Mehsizolie Keditsu scored the final goal as Vice captain Monish missed the target. For VVCE, Aqeel, Sudarshan and Thejas scored, while Praveen and Shashank missed the goal.

VVCE Secretary P Vishwanath, NIE Director T K Chittaranjan, VVCE Principal Dr B Sadashive Gowda distributed the prizes. Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by former Indian football player Narasimhaiah.

Teams

Thirty teams from various engineering colleges participated in the tournament including seven from Mysore, 12 from Mangalore, two each from Hassan and Davangere, three from Mandya and one each from Shimoga, Puttur, Bellur and Nitte.

Results

First round: NIE beat Maharaja’s Institute of Technology by 2-0. Second round: NIE defeated BIT, Mangalore by 3-0.

Quarterfinals: NIE thrashed PESCE, Mandya by 5-0.

Semi-finals: NIE overcame SJCE by 4-3.

Finals: NIE beat VVCE by 4-3 in Penalty Shoot-out.
