'India has utilised opportunities in Science & Technology for development'

Dr M G R Educational and Research Institute (Chennai) Chancellor Dr R M Vasaggam inaugurated a two-day  international conference on ‘Smart Materials and Technologies for Emerging Electronics (IC-SMTEE-2016)’ at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management here on Friday. 

On the occasion, he spoke on national solar mission and also mentioned that performance of catalyst can be improved by employing Nanotechnology. 

Prof Gottfried Döhler of Max Planck Institute, Germany, said there is a drastic change in economic development in India at present when compared to the past.

He said he is pleased to see that the country has utilised the opportunities for development in the field of science and technology and added that more and more students should take part in the conference.  

Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof K Byrappa mentioned importance of smart materials. “I started my career in electronic materials. Later, I moved on to work on ceramic materials and then moved on to the field of nanotechnology. The convergence of science and technology is important,” he said and also mentioned that Sahyadri College of engineering covers technology side and basic science and the research centre of Sahyadri is an example for all the engineering college of the country. 

 Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management Chairman Manjunath Bhan-dary highlighted the concept of nanotechnologies in Vedas and Puranas. Principal Dr U M Bhushi was present. Ninety research scholars/scientists and faculties from various places are attending the conference. The inaugural session was followed by scientific and technical sessions. There will be 18 invited lectures by renowned scientists from central institutes like Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai, IIT Mumbai on the two-day deliberations. The conference is being held on five theme sessions on materials and devices, organic photovoltaics, THz photonics, materials and techniques and the concluding session. A poster session was held on the occasion. Fifty research scholars are presenting their latest research findings in the conference.
