MLA C T Ravi has said that he has written a letter to Union Minister for Railways Mallikarjuna Kharge, urging to name Chikmagalur railway station after former MP D C Srikantappa.

Speaking after inspecting the ongoing work at Hiremagalur, he said that dream of the people of the region is being fulfilled after 88 years.

“It was with the effort of B L Shankar, the foundation was laid for the work when H D Deve Gowda was the prime minister. As meagre amount was released, the work could not be initiated. The work gained momentum when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister.”

The MLA said that the officials should ensure that no poor quality of work is initiated. Under bridge drain has collapsed in Hiremagalur. The surface of the road connecting railway station has chipped off.

The authorities should invite former CMs B S Yeddyurappa, D V Sadananda Gowda, Jagadish Shettar, former MP B L Shankar and former PM H D Deve Gowda for the inaugural programme.

He said that with the completion of the railway track, Chikmagalur will have direct access to Bangalore.
