Lyricist Vyasa Rao passes away

Senior Kannada writer, lyricist and poet M N Vyasa Rao, 73, passed away due to cardiac arrest at his residence in the city on Sunday morning.

Rao’s works are translated into Telugu, Hindi and English. He also translated works from Chinese, Irish and other languages to Kannada.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, Kannada and Culture Minister Jayamala and Higher Education Minister G T Devegowda have condoled the demise of the noted writer. Rao entered Kannada film industry as a lyricist in 1975 with the hit film ‘Shubhamangala,’ directed by Puttanna Kanagal. The songs he penned for the film ‘Suryangu Chandrangu Bandaare Munisu’ and ‘Nakondla Naku’ have remained classics till date.

Besides working as a lyricist for many Puttanna Kanagal movies, he contributed to several other Kannada films. He also wrote dialogues for many tele-serials.
