Following her historic win in the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency, Sumalatha Ambareesh said that a victory rally will be taken out on May 29 at Mandya, on the birth anniversary of her late husband, actor and minister Ambareesh.

Speaking to reporters after paying respect at Ambareesh's memorial at Kanteerava Studio in Bengaluru on Friday, Sumalatha said that her win reflected the self-esteem of people of Mandya.

"It is not me but the people who have created history," she said, after becoming the first person in more than five decades to win as an Independent candidate in Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka.

"JD(S) leaders humiliated me at every turn. Even Congress did not support me. Yet, I had my faith in the people of Mandya. As soon as I realised that 50 per cent of women voted across Mandya district, I was assured of my victory," she said.

She declined to respond to questions on the party she would extend support to. To a question, she said that she was not concerned about remarks that Mandya result would lead to the downfall of State government. "There were talks of instability in state government even before Lok Sabha polls," she said.
