WhatsApp brings in-app document scanner to iOS version

With over two billion active users, WhatsApp is the most popular messenger app on all major platforms such as iOS, Android and Windows. It has a simple user interface and it is easy for all age groups to get the hang of WhatsApp quickly. And, it has several value-added features including disappearing messages for private conversation; recently, it rolled out the 'Draft' indicator, and customisable chat list to help the user find their favourite groups and unfinished chat faster.

Now, the Meta-owned entity has released an update with a new feature. It has added document scanning within the app. This handy feature lets users scan any document and share it instantly with a friend or a colleague without having to leave the app.

This new feature saves time for the user. Previously, the user had to rely on the phone's native camera app or any third-party app to scan a document and save it in a folder. Then, the user has to open WhatsApp and go to the particular folder to retrieve and share the document.

Now, an in-app document scanner has been finally added to the app.

Here's how to use an in-app document scanner on iPhone:

Step 1: Open WhatsApp >> tap the '+' and select Documber

Step 2: After selecting Document, it will list three options--

1) Choose from files

2) Choose photo or video

3) Scan document

Step 3: Select Scan document; then, position the document in view and tap the on-screen shutter to scan the paper document. If needed, you can resize by dragging the corner points.

Step 4: And, instantly share the scanned document on the WhatsApp messenger app

It should be noted that WhatsApp's new feature Document is currently available on iPhones. It is expected to be rolled to other platforms soon.

In a related development, WhatsApp is testing an image reverse search feature.

WhatsApp will offer the option 'search on the web'. It will take the user to Google Search and will be able to know if the photo is genuine or morphed.

With this reverse search feature, people will be able to verify if the image shared on WhatsApp is fake or genuine and not fall for misinformation.
