<p>Bengaluru: NXP Semiconductors, a Dutch chip designer and manufacturer, has announced plans to allocate a substantial portion of its Rs 8,400 crore ($1 billion) global research and development (R&D) investment to Bengaluru over the next five years. </p><p>This commitment came during Industries’ Minister M B Patil-led delegation’s visit to Europe to promote Invest Karnataka Global Investors Meet scheduled in February.</p>.Single-window system: M B Patil sets Dec deadline for depts.<p>Patil offered government support for the semiconductor company’s initiatives with NXP showing interest in collaborating with startups and participating inskilling. </p><p>Dutch PM Mark Rutte had held meetings with the Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar during his visit to Bengaluru last year, stating that he is in talks with the Indian and Karnataka governments to expand the presence of Dutch companies in the semiconductor space. NXP is one of the largest semiconductor companies in the world. It has R&D offices in India, but not a semiconductor manufacturing plant. </p><p>The delegation also held talks with Philips for the expansion of their Innovation Campus in Bengaluru, bolstered by a Rs 445-crore investment in 2023. Patil pushed the company to broaden its footprint with a manufacturing facility.</p><p>Other meetings included Signify (formerly Philips Lightning) as well as Heineken.</p>
