Youth beaten up in Alwar on suspicion of cow smuggling

A 23-year-old man was allegedly nabbed and beaten up by villagers in the jungles of Bagheri Khurd in Rajasthan’s Alwar district on the suspicion of cow smuggling.

Sagir Khan, a resident of Mirzapur in Alwar district was taking six cows in a pick-up van through a village in Alwar when he was beaten up. He was undergoing treatment at Rajiv Gandhi District Hospital in Alwar but now has been shifted to SMS hospital in Jaipur.

The Kishangarh Bas police have registered case against people who assaulted Khan based on his statements. However, Khan himself has been booked in a separate case of Rajasthan Bovine Animal (Prohibition of Slaughter and Regulation of Temporary Migration or Export) Act, 1995, for illegally transporting bovines.

The police took the cows to a shelter home and took the pick up van in its custody and had informed the relatives of Sagir Khan.

Kishangarh Bas SHO Rajesh Kumar said, "As soon we got information, team drawn from six police stations came to the spot and found him injured shivering in cold. He was illegally transporting cows from Shahpura in Jaipur to Haryana in a pick-up vehicle. He was accompanied by his friend Mushtaq".

According to the police youths travelling in a swift car had verbal spat which turned violent when they spotted the badly tied up cows in the truck. Youths informed nearby villagers who then beat him up.

Jaipur IG Range S Sengathir confirmed that Khan has been involved in a similar case of cattle smuggling in the past and was arrested earlier this year under the Rajasthan Bovine Act and was sent to jail.

The incident has come a few months after 28-year-old Aabar Khan was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Rajasthan's Alwar on suspicion that he was smuggling cows.
