Udupi slips from first to fourth rank

The Udupi district, ranked first among 30 districts in the previous academic year, slipped to the fourth position, achieving an overall pass percentage of 87.97%.

The district had achieved an overall pass percentage of 88.18% in the academic year 2017-18.

According to the SSLC results declared on Tuesday, 11,770 out of 14,114 students cleared their examinations, achieving an overall pass percentage of 87.97%. Of the total number of students who wrote their examinations, 13,003 were appeared for the first time, while 11,457 students, including 5,902 girls cleared the examinations.

As many as 5,527 students out of 6,784 in the Kannada medium and 5,930 students out of 6,129 had passed the examinations (81.47%). The students in English medium had scored an overall pass percentage of 95.35%.

The district had previously achieved the first rank in 2009, 2012 and 2015.

Anagha Udupa Kota of Viveka English Medium School, by scoring 623 marks, has bagged the third rank in the state. Her father, Nagesh Udupa, is serving as a constable in Lokayukta. Anagha said that she would attribute her success to well-planned preparation, hard work and proper guidance from parents and teachers.

Ankita P Acharya, student of Shanthiniketan English Medium School, Alevoor, scored 621 out of 625 (99.36%) and is ranked fifth in the state. She told DH that she used to wake up at 4 am to read and practice. Ankita’s father T G Prabhakar Acharya works as a goldsmith and mother Vijayashree P Acharya is a homemaker.

She has set her sight on achieving great heights in Biotechnology. She will opt for Science in pre-university. She has scored 125 in Sanskrit, 100 in English, 100 in Kannada, 100 in Mathematics, 98 in Social Science and 98 in Science.
