‘Upper Bhadra project will help irrigation’

MP Shobha Karandlaje has said that the work on filling tanks under the Upper Bhadra project will help farmers irrigate their land.

She was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the work on filling 59 tanks and providing drip irrigate facilities to 16,000 acres of land at an estimated cost of Rs 287 crore at Narasipura on Monday.

She said it was B S Yeddyurappa who had approved of the project way back in 2011.

“Although the work order had been issued in 2012, the Congress government failed to give priority to irrigation projects and the work remained pending for many years,” she criticised.

MLA D S Suresh said that the project aims at filling water in 89 lakes.

“In the first phase, water will be filled in 59 lakes and irrigate 16,394 acres of agricultural land. This will benefit about 13,882 farmers,” he explained.

He added that priority has been given to drinking water projects.

“The work on supplying drinking water to 16 villages between Belenahalli and Ajjampura will be completed in March,” assured the MLA.
