26 booked in M'luru for drunken driving

Mangaluru City police have booked 26 cases against drunken driving on New Year’s Eve in and around the city.

The police had placed barricades in different parts of the city to check drunken driving. During the check, the police had found vehicles being driven with the drivers in an inebriated condition, said Traffic ACP Manjunath Shetty.

In a bid to check drunken driving on New Year’s Eve, the Police had also deployed its personnel across the city.

Illegal sand seized

Mangaluru ACP North R Srinivas Gowda and police personnel have arrested two tipper lorry drivers and seized three tipper lorries that were engaged in illegal transportation of sand.

The drivers were mining sand from Phalguni river on the Kudremukh Junction-Thannirbavi Main road early Tuesday.

The ACP, who was on special rounds, found tipper lorries without any permits to transport sand.

The arrested are Kanakappa, a resident of Kemthooru in Udupi, and Ganesh G, a resident of Katipalla. Another driver fled from the spot.
