Oppo earlier this month launched the new line of premium mid-range F31 phone series in India.
It comes in three variants-- F31, F31 Pro and F31 Pro+ with prices ranging from Rs 22,999 and Rs 34,999.
I got the opportunity to review the top-end F31 Pro+ variant. Here are my thoughts on Oppo's Android phone.
Design, build quality and display
Oppo's F31 Pro+ is a big phone, comes in a solid rectangular form factor with flat rails around the edges and curvaceous corners.
For some people with small hands, it may come off a bit big to hold the device in one hand, and the possibility of accidental drops is high.
Oppo has covered this base fully, as it has fortified the F31 Pro+ with highly durable materials. It comes with military-grade MIL-STD-810H certifications.
It is crafted with a 360-degree Armour Body having a multi-layer airbag structure that cushions internal components from suffering any damage during an accidental drop on a hard surface.
The company has used an aerospace-grade AM04 aluminium alloy frame, which is said to be 10 per cent stronger than its predecessor. On the front, the display is safeguarded by AGC DT-Star D+ glass, which takes care of daily wear and tear, avoiding getting scratched when kept with articles such as keys or coins in the closed confines of a pant pocket.

Further, the device is triple-certified IP66, IP68, and IP69. It is resistant to dust, immersion in water, and even high-pressure water jets at temperatures up to 80 degrees Celsius.

Additionally, the company is offering a free cover case and has also pre-fitted a screen guard on the display. This way, Oppo has ensured the F31 Pro+ will be able to serve the customer for several years, and not have to spend money every year or two to upgrade to a new model.
As you can notice from the cover photo, the device is not a boring, bulky phone; it looks amazing too. It has a smooth back panel with a matte finish and diamond-like shiny texture at the base. And, it does a fine job repelling the sweaty fingerprint smudges. The circular camera too has blue matching accents further adding value to the visual appeal.
Our review unit is aptly named gemstone blue. It looks gorgeous in the sunlight. The company also offers the device in two other colours--festive pink and Himalayan white.

Oppo F31 Pro+ features a 6.8-inch full HD+ (2800 × 1280p) OLED display with up to 1600 nits peak brightness, 19.5:9 screen aspect ratio and 120Hz refresh rate. It has a pixel density of 453 pixels per inch (ppi).
It is really good for consuming multimedia content, playing games and scrolling endlessly on social media platforms indoors.
However, outdoors, there is a reflection issue, but it is not a deal breaker, as all devices in its class do not come with an anti-glare coating. Only a handful of phones, that too, the ones priced around a lakh, come with such a feature.

It features dual-SIM slots, a Type-C USB port, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and an infrared sensor. The latter comes in handy to control Internet-of-Things (IoT) such as smart TVs, Smart ACs, water heaters and fans.
The in-screen fingerprint sensors work amazingly fast in terms of recognising the finger impression and unlocking the home screen, with fewer false rejection issues.
Performance
It houses a 4nm class Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 octa-core CPU, Adreno 720 GPU, 8GB / 12GB LPDDR4X RAM with 256GB UFS 3.1 storage.
Besides the super sturdy exterior body, the new F31 series is fortified internally to control overheating.
Whenever the phones are pushed to the extreme, such as playing graphics-rich games or running generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI)-powered applications, they tend to get warmed up; it will be worse outdoors with a tropical climate like in India.

To overcome such issues, Oppo has incorporated an efficient heat dissipation system. The Pro+ model houses a 5,219 mm² vapour chamber, which is integrated with expanded graphite layers on top. This design ensures the device maintains performance even in peak Indian summers, where temperatures can reach 43°C.
It supports several generative Artificial Intelligence features including AI VoiceScribe, AI Call Assistant (AI Call Summary, AI Call Translator), AI Editor 2.0 (AI Perfect Shot, AI Recompose, AI Clarity Enhancer, AI Reflection Remover, AI Unblur, AI Eraser 2.0), AI Linkboost 3.0, AI VoiceScribe, AI Call Assistant (AI Call Summary, AI Call Translator), AI Editor 2.0 and more.
Most of the gen AI features run smoothly without any pressing issues to complain about.
The device runs Android 15-based ColorOS 15.0. Though the device comes with several third-party apps, it has an easy-to-grasp user interface. Also, thanks to the big base storage of 256GB, there is more than enough space to install hundreds of new apps and even be able to store thousands of photos and videos captured with the camera.
Besides the solid build quality, another notable aspect of the Oppo F31 Pro+ is the big 7,000mAh battery. Under normal usage with Wi-Fi connectivity at home and the office, it can last one and a half days.
Even if the user is fully reliant on cellular internet all day, the device can easily last a full day.
Further, the device supports 80W SuperVOOC charging. It takes an hour to fully charge the device from zero to 100 per cent.

Photography
It houses a dual-camera module-- a main 50MP (with OV50D40 sensor, f/1.8, OIS) camera and a 2MP(with Galaxy Core 02M1B sensor, f/2.4) depth camera with LED flash on the back.

It takes pretty good photos in natural sunlight. Like most Oppo phones, it does boost the subject's colour to appear more vibrant. I am complaining here, as the pictures are absolutely stunning, worthy to be shared on social media platforms and messenger apps.

The F31 Pro+ also takes really nice close-up shots with all minute details.

Though it doesn't support ultra-wide mode, the device still manages to get a wide area in the frame pretty nicely.

With portrait mode on, the F31 Pro+ does a fantastic job with sharp focus on the subject without any smudges around the contour and artfully blurs the background to get the perfect bokeh effect.

On the front, it houses a 32MP (with Galaxy Core 32E2 sensor, f/2.4) for selfies and video calling.

Final thoughts
Oppo's latest F31 Pro+ is a reliable performer. Besides the solid build quality, it excels with its long battery life and smooth performance. Also, it has decent photography hardware.
