Last year in November, Google surprised everyone with the launch of new QuickShare, a cross-platform wireless data transfer feature for Pixel phones with iPhones. But, it was not available for non-Pixel Android phones.

Now, the company which hosted select media persons at Google’s Taipei office during a Pixel Labs tour, revealed that it will be expanded to all Android phones.

It will be coming this year itself, confirmed Eric Kay, Vice President of Engineering for the Android platform.

Currently, people use messenger apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and the Google Photos app to share multimedia content. But the customer has to rely on super-fast internet connectivity, and also, the quality of the content sometimes takes a hit. And, on WhatsApp, people have to turn on HD mode, making it a multi-step process. Also, there is limitation of 2GB as well.

However, newly launched QuickShare feature for Pixel phones work as smoothly as AirDrop. Users will be able to share large video files instantly between two devices instantly by just a tap or by taking the two devices very close. For the seamless data transfer, both the devices should have Bluetooth on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

In a related development, Google has announced to bring more advanced anti-theft features to Android phones.

Google will make more hard for thieves to guess the phone's PIN, pattern, or password by increasing the lockout time after failed attempts.

Google is also bringing more control for the user to remotely lock the stolen or misplaced Android phone. It will offer a new optional security question/challenge to the process. This helps ensure that only the real device owner can initiate a lock, adding another layer of security. This will be available on phones with Android 10 or newer versions.
