<p>There were massive traffic jams experienced in parts of Delhi, due to Chhath Puja celebrations and Jawaharlal Nehru University student’s protest on Sunday. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Central Delhi’s lanes were clogged with students of different universities including JNU, Jamia Milia Islamia and Delhi University who were protesting for speedy investigation in a case concerning a student of JNU missing for 23 days. <br /><br />Nearly 70 students were obstructing traffic at Dhyan Chand National Stadium from where they were later picked up by police and detained at Barakhamba police station.<br /><br />The Zakir Hussain marg was barricaded by police from both sides as JNU students were protesting outside National Archives of India. <br /><br />An autowallah said that people can only walk to the nearest metro station from Zakir Hussain Marg or take a ride towards Indraprastha sides rest all roads were blocked.<br /><br />A woman walked a stretch of one and a half kilometre to Khan Market Metro Station after her autowallah dropped her in front Zakir Hussain Marg. <br /><br />There were traffic jams on most bridges over Yamuna and around water bodies around India Gate in Central Delhi as devotees gathered to celebrate Chhath on Sunday.<br />Several stretches of the Ring Road along the Yamuna were choked as traffic diversions left many motorists and inter-state travellers stranded.<br /><br />North-South traffic was disrupted in the evening from 4 pm onwards as police put up barricades to prevent any traffic to cut across Rajpath, except one point near Vijay Chowk.<br />“I thought on a Sunday I would reach Connaught Place in 20 minutes from Saket but the traffic police kept diverting us and did not let us use Shahjahan Road, Man Singh Road or Janpath,” said a private firm executive.<br /><br />An official said due to law and order arrangements traffic is heavy on Mathura Road, Subramaniam Bharti Marg,Sikandara Road, Rafi Marg and Janpath.<br /><br />“Thank god it was a Sunday. Had it been a normal working day, I would have never managed to reach the New Delhi railway station to catch my train,” said Archit, who walked over a kilometre with luggage near ITO before reaching the station around 5 pm.<br /><br />Just before the sun set, there was heavy traffic near ITO, Shahdra, Wazirabad and Nizamuddin Bridges which saw presence of a large number of devotees.<br /><br />A traffic police alert on its twitter handle said “Traffic is heavy at Chandgi Ram Akhara towards ISBT due to Chhath Puja and law & order management. Kindly avoid the stretch.”<br />Roads leading to Noida in the Kalindi Kunj area were block due to diversions and devotees.</p>
