The Congress has denied allegations levelled by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that the party has colluded with its arch rival CPM on the issue of renaming a house in Kolkata.

.
Responding to allegations, Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said: “I do not understand the context of the question where the chief minister is saying that the Congress and the Left are working in tandem.

The Congress is in alliance with the Trinamool party in West Bengal. The Trinamool is an ally of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in Delhi.

“However, it is correct that in the past because of the congruence of views on secularism, the Left was with the UPA. I do not know in what context, circumstances and perspective the statement was made by the West Bengal chief minister,” Tewari added.

Earlier, Banerjee, who is also the chief of Trinamool Congress, had alleged that the Congress party’s state unit was in collusion with the CPM to attack her party on a move to rename Indira Bhavan, where former prime minister Indira Gandhi had stayed during the 1972 AICC session.

Banerjee also said that Congressmen, who are agitating now, however, did not utter a word when the house was used as a CPM party office when former West Bengal chief minister Jyoti Basu was staying there.
