<p>Fed up with being repeatedly asked to stop taking drugs, a 36-year-old property dealer killed his wife in north-west Delhi, police said on Tuesday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Harpal Singh, a resident of Rishi Nagar at Rani Bagh, was arrested from Nihal Vihar, where he went into hiding after killing his wife, Jaspreet Kaur.<br /><br />“We got a call at the police control room on Sunday about an assault on a woman at Saya Beauty Parlour at Rishi Nagar. <br /><br />A police team went to the spot and found that the owner of the beauty parlour, Jaspreet Kaur, had been stabbed by her husband. <br /><br />Some people saw him committing the murder,” said Romil Baniya, additional deputy commissioner of police (north-west).<br /><br />Witnesses told police that Harpal Singh fled from the spot immediately.<br /><br />Kaur was taken to Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital, from where she was referred to AIIMS trauma centre. She succumbed to her injuries on Monday.<br /><br />“We got a call from the mother-in-law of the deceased. She said her son Harpal Singh was at the house of one of her nephews, Malkeet Singh, in Nihal Vihar. Singh was arrested immediately,” said Baniya.<br /><br />Singh told police that he and his wife knew each other from their school days in Guru Harkishan Public School in Punjabi Bagh. <br /><br />His wife’s family never approved of their marriage, so they tied the knot at Arya Samaj Mandir. <br /><br />Over the years, he became an alcoholic.<br /><br />“Eventually, he became a drug addict and his wife objected to this. The couple used to fight often due to his addiction to drugs,” said Baniya. <br /><br />To make quick money and to serve his needs, he had also committed several crimes, including the abduction of his cousin brother in 2009. <br /><br />Witnesses said Singh first asked his wife to forgive him when he turned up at the parlour, but suddenly he took out a knife and stabbed her.</p>
