Last Updated 13 March 2018, 12:43 IST

The railways has laid down a plan to provide WiFi services to over 8000 railway stations across the country by March 2019.

As the Centre is pushing for Digital India programme, the government expects that providing WiFi in railway stations would also help  common man to surf net easily and access online services provided by the various government departments, said a source in the railway  ministry.

RailTel in collaboration with the Department of Telecom (DOT) has already set up WiFi hotspots in A1 and A category 200 railways stations. Apart from this, Google along with RailTel is working to equip 400 major railway stations in the country with high-speed internet facility.
