Industries and corporate houses will have villages named after them if they donate Rs 10 crore or more towards flood relief, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said on Wednesday.

Under the operation 'Varsha Rahat', 41 Navy teams were deployed in difficult terrains and weather conditions of the three states where they used advanced light helicopters and also boats to reach the marooned areas, he said.

"Our demand is that the union government should immediately announce a interim relief of Rs 5000 crore..damages to properties and loss may add up to Rs 50,000 crore. . A total of 2,217 villages in 86 taluks of 17 districts have been affected due to floods and rains in the State. As many as 41,915 houses damaged, and agriculture and horticulture crop loss (preliminary assessment) stands at 4.30 lakh hectares. The state government has requested the Centre to immediately release Rs 3,000 crore.

"If we total all districts, the loss will be around Rs 40,000 to 50,000 crore. We have requested the Centre to release Rs 3,000 crore immediately",Yediyurappasaid.

. The Karnataka government has decided to celebrate the country's independence day in a "simple" way as most parts of the State had been affected by floods and incessant rains.

With Chief Minister B SYediyurappaheading a "one-man" Cabinet with no Ministers, senior government officials have been asked to hoist the national flag on August 15 at district and taluk level functions.

. Deputy Commissioner Dr Bagadi Gautham has announced holiday for schools and colleges in Chikkamagaluru, Mudigere, Sringeri, Koppa and N R Pura taluks on August 13 and 14. Heavy rain in the last few days has damaged roads and several villages have no connectivity. A few schools have been converted to relief centres to accommodate natural calamity victims. Hence, holiday has been declared for schools and colleges, said the DC.

. The BJP's Karnataka unit on Monday hit out at Congress Legislature party leader Siddaramaiah for not visiting his flood-hit Badami assembly constituency and instead attending a "biryani party."

The BJP has also posted pictures of Siddaramaiah purportedly having food along with KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao, veteran congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, party legislators B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan, M B Patil, K J George, Krishna Byre Gowda, among others.

Siddaramaiah had cited cataract surgery and doctors' advice for not visiting Badami in Bagalkot district that is affected by floods. He had deputed his son and MLA of Varuna constituency in Mysuru Yathindra to visit Badami and take stock of the situation.

Siddaramaiah has been flaying the central government over the delay in releasing funds to take up relief measures.

. A flooded house in North Karnataka seems to have an unexpected visitor.

. Villages in the jurisdiction of Kushalnagar, Mullusoge, Guddehosuru and Koodumangaluru Gram Panchayats have been facing acute shortage of drinking water for the last five years.The villages are dependent on River Cauvery for drinking water. Now, however, the river is flowing above danger level and the pipeline from the Water Board has been damagedin heavy floods, resulting in supply of drinking water being stalled. Disrupted power supply has added to the problem.

. Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Monday expressed hope that the situation in flood-ravaged parts of the state will be back to normal in four to six days as there had been a let-up in the rains.

The chief minister also expressed confidence of cooperation from the Centre in taking up relief measures, by releasing funds.

The Chief Minister also thanked former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, CLP leader Siddaramaiah and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy for their cooperation.

A total of 5,81,897 people have been evacuated and rescued so far, and 1,181 relief camps have been opened where 3,32,629 people are taking shelter.

. Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said that Rs 5lakh would be given for those who have lost their houses in landslides and floods.

Speaking to media persons afterlistening woes of flood victims at Kukkavu relief centre in Belthangady on Monday, Yediyurappa said Rs 5lakh will be given for those whose houses have been damaged.

In Dakshina Kannada, 282 houses have been demolished in rain. DC has been asked to identify sites and sanction it to victims within 15 days.

As an immediate measure, Rs 10,000 will be given to the affected families by Monday evening. Till the houses are repaired and new houses are constructed, the affected family will get monthly house rent of Rs 5,000.

The world heritage site Hampi along the banks of Tungabhadra River in Ballari district has been inundated with authorities releasing over 1.70 lakh cusecs of water from a reservoir on Sunday morning. The district administration has asked residents living along the river banks to move to safer places as all 33 gates of the Tungabhadra Dam were opened following heavy inflow of over two lakh cusecs in the wake of incessant rains in the catchment areas in the Western Ghats for the last one week, officials said. . Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday undertook an aerial survey of the flood affected areas of Karnataka, where 31 people have lost their lives and more than four lakh have been displaced. Shah, also the BJP president, arrived by a special aircraft from Chennai at the Sambra Airport in Belagavi and set out on the survey of some of the affected areas onboard an army helicopter, official sources said. He is accompanied by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, union ministers Pralhad Joshi and Suresh Angadi, Rajya Sabha member Prabhakar Kore and Hukkeri BJP MLA Umesh Katti. An official earlier in the day said the home minister will assess the flood situation in Belagavi district. The unprecedented floods since last week have claimed 31 lives and forced more than 4 lakh people to leave their homes in 80 Taluks of 17 districts in Karnataka. Almost all the rivers in the state are in spate. The worst affected districts are Belagavi, Bagalkote, Vijayapura, Gadag, Uttara Kannada, Raichur, Yadigir, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu. (PTI)

. Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday came down heavily on chief minister B S Yediyurappa for his alleged failure to form his cabinet even in the wake of severe flood in the state.

"Yediyurappa is performing mono acting. It's a one-man show. I don't know how a single man can handle so much. It is humanly impossible. More than two weeks have passed. Just one man. There is no council of ministers. There's no government at all," Siddaramaiah told reporters here. The former chief minister, who could not travel to the flood-hit areas due to a cataract operation, said, A chief minister cannot be called the council of ministers. Cabinet means the council of ministers, not just the Chief Minister."

. The Ministry of Jal Shakti has sent an advisory warning for the River Cauvery. Approximately 1.50 lakh cusecs are expected to be released today night, which will subsequently be increased to 2.4 lakh cusecs, by tomorrow evening.

. Flood like situation continued in Mysuru district. A bridge connecting Talakad and T Narasipur has submerged and the vehicle movement is banned. River water entered houses at low lying areas in Talakad and Hemmige bridge is inundated. The district administration has sought help from the individuals and the organisations. Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar urged the people to contribute house kits and the donors can drop the items at relief material collection centre established at Town Hall in Mysuru.

. An official release said the death toll has risen to 31 with four more deaths last night while 14 people were missing. As many as 3.14 lakh people have been evacuated and of them 2.18 lakh people are staying in 924 relief camps, it said.

"I am going to Belgaum (Belagavi). Our (BJP) national president Amit Shah is arriving there. Together we will conduct an aerial survey in Belgaum, Bagalkote and other areas. I will be back after he leaves for Delhi," Yediyurappa told reporters here.

. Water inflow into river Krishna and its tributaries from Maharashtra at Rajapur weir on the state’s borders in Belagavi district came down to 344000 cusecs on Sunday.

It has been for the first time since the waters had begun to swell Krishna and its tributaries coming down. Flood situation in the villages along the banks of Krishna and its tributaries continues to remain grim with agricultural lands and villages remaining to be flooded and some of them marooned in the taluks of Nippani, Chikkodi, Raibag, Athani and Kagwad. More than 245 villages have been facing the brunt of natures fury.

. Chikkamagaluru Deputy Commissioner Dr Bagadi Gautham has banned the entry of tourists to hilly ranges of Mullayyanagiri, Seethalayyanagiri and Sri Guru Dattatreya Bababudan Swamy Dargah till August 14. Following incessant rainfall, landslides have occurred on the road leading to these hilly ranges. Hence, the ban order has been imposed by the district administration.

. As many as 1,129 people including former Union Minister B Janardhan Poojary two pregnant women and two babies were rescued by rescue teams and rehabilitated in 31 relief centres set up across Dakshina Kannada (DK) district on Saturday.

As Netravathi river began flooding the streets in B C Road, 82-year-old Congress leader Janardhana Poojary was rescued from his home, Chennamma Kuteera, in Kanchikaru Kotla near B C road and shifted to Gokarnanatheshwara temple in Kudroli, sources close to his family toldDH.

. The authorities of Krishnaraja Sagar (KSR) dam have issued flood warning to residents downstream the reservoir on the banks of River Cauvery.

The water level of the dam reached 112 ft on Saturday and the Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited (CNNL) released 59,627 cusec of water from the dam. The outflow is likely to be increased as the inflow is more than 1.30 lakh cusec. KRS is receiving a large quantum of water as Kodagu district is receiving heavy rainfall and the outflow of Hemavathi dam in Gorur, Hassan district has increased to 1,52,499 cusec.

. With the Malaprabha river unleashing its destructive force, people of hundreds of villages on the banks of swollen Malaprabha river in Bagalkot, Gadag and Belagavi districts are spending sleepless nights.

Malaprabha River and Tuppari Halla rendered Saundatti town into an island. Road connectivity from the temple town has been cut off as Malaprabha is flowing over Munavalli bridge while overflowing Tuppari Halla has damaged Inamhongal bridge.

. As many as 58 flood-prone areas have been identified in Kodagu district.

There are 26 flood-prone areas in Madikeri taluk, 16 in Virajpet taluk, three in Somwarpet, five in Kushalnagar Town Panchayat, and eight flood-prone areas in Virajpet Town Panchayat jurisdiction.

. Two rescue missions were flown by helicopters of SWAC on Saturday evening from Jamnagar around village Ballabha, Jamnagar district. 14 persons picked up by Wing Commander UC Vaish while Wing Commander Vishal Jain winched up 16 marooned persons.

. 3 pregnant women in Badami Taluk of Bagalkot district were rescued by the local police and fire and emergency service personnel.

. Residents of Charmady and surrounding villages in Dakshina Kannada district, living right at the foot of Western Ghats, are not averse to heavy rainfall as annual rainfall surpasses 3,000 mm in the region.

. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Saturday that insurance firms would be directed to pay compensation to farmers who suffered losses in the floods inKarnataka. Speaking to reporters at Belagavi after conducting an aerial survey of Belagavi and Bagalkot districts, she said insurance firms would be instructed to conduct meetings with officers and elected representatives of the districts concerned and finalise the compensation amount and to conduct their surveys and formalities later. The Centre would also take steps to protect farmers and poor people from money lenders, Sitharaman added. Incessant rains in many districts inKarnatakaover the past few days have left 26 people dead and affected thousands. The finance minister, who is a Rajya Sabha member fromKarnataka, visited flood-hit Belagavi and Bagalkote districts and spoke to some flood-affected people. She also visited a few relief centres and took stock of the situation. At one of the affected areas, a woman broke down while narrating her plight. (PTI)

. The on Saturday announced the cancellation of several trains till August 23 due to landslides in the Hassan-Mangalore section of Mysuru Division. Rail transport in Sakleshpur- Subramanya Road ghat section has been hit adversely. There has been unprecedented rainfall in the section. The rainfall in Sakleshpur-Subramanya Road is almost double that of the last cumulative year and the section between Subramanya Road and Donegal has become vulnerable. In the past five days there have been 30 incidents of landslips between Hassan and Subramanya Road, a South-Western Railway release said. In view of weather warning received from the state government for the next two days, all the railway staff and labourers from the Ghat section have been evacuated and lodged at Subramanya Road Railway station till clearance is received from the government to move the staff, it said.

The trains cancelled include Yesvantpur-Karwar Express, KSR Bengaluru to Kannur/Karwar Express, Kannur/Karwar to KSR Bengaluru Express via Mysuru, Yesvantpur to Mangaluru Junction express, Yesvantpur to Mangaluru Central express, the release said. (PTI)

. The Army has intensified rescue and relief operations in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Thirteen teams of engineers have airlifted from Rajasthan to bolster ongoing flooding relief efforts in Kerala, while additional engineering teams are on standby to join operations. An army spokesperson said that 20 medical teams are being moved into affected areas in Maharashtra and Kerala and that as of date, over 3,000 army troops have been deployed on such operations in 17 districts across four states. Due to the torrential rains in the coastal areas, Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil has urged residents in low-lying areas to immediately shift to safe places, as the brimming river Nethravati is flowing at a dangerous level. Water in the Nethravati and Gurpur Phalguni rivers are overflowing due to incessant rains and have already entered low-lying areas near the banks of the river. Bantwal taluk is flooded due to incessant rains. Rescue operations were being done by boats ferrying stranded people from areas which are almost submerged, jeeps were also used to rescue people in distress. The district administration and officials are stationed near the dangerous spots and are prepared to tackle any dangers that may be caused by rains and floods. A number of houses at Upppinangady and Bantwal, which are located on the river banks are submerged in water, official sources said. More than 1,000 people have been shifted to the relief camps opened at the Inspection Bungalow and Sharada High School of Panemangalore. The residence and farms of senior Congress leader Janardhan Poojary at Bantwal cross were also submerged in water. NDRF personnel shifted Poojary and other residents to safer places. (PTI)

. South Western Railway Mysuru Divison has cancelled the train due to heavy downpour and consequent water flowing on the tracks at several locations between Kumsi and Talguppa Railway stations in Shivamogga – Talguppa section of Mysuru Division.

Efforts of the district administration have gone in vain due to the spate of Ballari Nala. The couple has been stuck there for three days with a hope of rescue. Bad weather has not permitted the local copters. It is only the Defense helicopters which have the ability to fly in the odds and rescue them as per certain sources.

According to district administration sources, two helicopters were kept ready to carry outrescue operation but has not been possible due to incessant rains and bad weather.

. Government of Karnataka has decided to release water in Tungabhadra project and Vijayanagara Canals as the inflow has increased in Tungabhadra Reservoir.

Inflow to Tungabhadra reservoir was 23,052 cusecs on August 6, 2019, and outflow at Tunga reservoir in Shivamogga was 77,000 cusecs. As the outflow from Tunga reservoir is increased, the storage at Tungabhadra dam is expected to rise to 30 to 40 TMC. Hence it has been decided to release 9800 cusecs of water to Left bank and right bank canals of Tungabhadra reservoir and Vijayanagar canals.

. Flood situation escalated in the district with waters in river Krishna and it’s tributaries continuing to flow above danger levels posing more problems on Wednesday.

Inflow from Maharashtra into Krishna increased to over 4 lakh cusecs. Discharge of about 1 lakh cusecs from Hidkal dam added to the inflow at Almatti.

River Vedanga flooded parts of Nippani town and surrounding villages on Wednesday and it’s watering inundating houses.

Hidkal dam filled to the maximum level of 2175 feet leading in the discharge of water downstream.

. Continuous landslides and uprooting of trees on Charmadi Ghat disrupted the movement of vehicles on Tuesday night. A car was damaged when a tree fell on it at the tenth curve of the ghat.

All the passengers in the car have escaped unhurt, said sources. The entry of vehicles to Charmadi Ghat is prohibited from Kottigehara itself by the police. The forest officials and team of labourers have rushed to the spot to clear fallen trees and landslides.

. Authorities in Bagalkot on Tuesday issued directed villagers to vacate to safe areas as 4.5 lakh cusecs water may have to be released "at any moment" due to the high inflow.

D Basavaraj, KBJNL Executive Engineer at Almatti dam, has said in a release that the warning was being issued due to the continuing heavy rain in the catchment area of Krishna river.

"Due to the high inflow rate, about 4 lakh to 4.5 lakh cusecs of water may have to be released at any moment. Therefore, residents of villages and the towns of in low lying area below the dam have to vacate along with their livestock to safer areas," he said.

The engineer has also cautioned that those living next to the river course also need to be on high alert.

. Tourists who were stranded inside Veerabhadreshwara Swamy Temple amid gushing water from Kalhathigiri waterfalls at Tarikere were rescued by police and local residents, on Tuesday

With the increase in water from waterfalls, 35 tourists had remained stranded inside the temple. They were rescued using the rope at 2 pm. Local auto drivers helped in the rescue operation. All the tourists are safe, said Lingadahalli PSI Basavarajappa to DH.

. Train services between Bengaluru and Mangaluru has been partially cancelled following landslides on the track between Siribagilu and Subramanya Road Railway station in Sakleshpur- Subramanya Road ghat section of Mysuru Division, on Tuesday.

Also, in view of the restoration works and safety of passengers, train No 16516 Karwar to Yesvantpur Express journey on Tuesday is partially cancelled between Mangaluru Central to Hassan.

And, train No 16575 Yesvantpur to Mangaluru Junction journey on Tuesday is partially cancelled between Hassan to Mangaluru Central.

. Following the copious rains in the catchment area, water was released from 20 crest gates of Tunga dam at Gajanur near Shivamogga on Tuesday. The city corporation has asked people residing on the bank of the river in Shivamogga to move to a safer place as the river Tunga is flowing the above the danger mark.
