The Aam Aadmi Party Purvanchal wing’s district president’s mutilated body was found in the bushes near his house in outer Delhi’s Rohini on Monday.

After an initial probe, police suspect it be a case of a hate crime or an attack over extramarital affair.

Dhirendra’s body was found with several injury marks inflicted using sharp weapon, including on his private parts. The 32-year-old lived with his family at Begum Vihar near Rohini Sector 33.

“It appears that dogs had fed upon the body after it was dumped,” said Vikramjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer).

Dhirendra’s family had also approached police after he did not return home on Sunday. A search was conducted after his mobile phone was also found switched off.

On Monday morning, the body was found less than a kilometre away from his house. Since Dhirendra was brutally attacked, police do not suspect it to be a case of robbery gone wrong.

“We cannot comment on how active he was in politics or if the murder is related to his political career,” Singh added.

Dhirendra earlier lived in Rohini Sector 24 and had shifted to the house in Begum Vihar around 15 days ago. He is survived by his wife and a two-year-old son. Police have questioned his wife and elder brother.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted his condolences and visited Dhirendra’s family on Monday.

AAP’s Delhi unit convenor Dilip Pandey said the party expects quick action from Delhi Police to nab the murderers.

“Sad day for all of us, for humanity. One of our great volunteers murdered brutally last night. God gives strength to his family. RIP,” Pandey tweeted.
