The husband of Aam Aadmi Party’s RK Puram MLA Pramila Tokas was arrested on Friday in two cases filed with the local police station last month. Dheeraj got bail from a court on Saturday.

A complaint was filed by a Central Public Works Department assistant engineer on December 15, while another complaint was filed by a woman on December 18.

Metropolitan Magistrate Dheeraj Mittal granted bail to Dheeraj in both the cases on a personal bond of Rs 40,000 each with one surety of the like amount.

During the proceedings, police produced Dheeraj before the court and opposed his bail plea claiming that he can tamper with evidence.

Police had requested the court to send Dheeraj to judicial custody.
Senior advocate H S Phoolka, who represented Dheeraj, told the court that there was no allegation that he has not cooperated with police during the probe or that he tried to influence witnesses.

He also told the court that there was no apprehension that he can tamper with evidence.
The allegations were over a CPWD team demolishing slums in RK Puram Sector-12. According to the assistant engineer, Tokas, her husband Dheeraj and their supporters had allegedly obstructed the officials from carrying out their duty. They also provoked locals to assault them.

After receiving the complaint, police had registered an FIR under sections 186 (obstructing public servant), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 353 (assault) of Indian Penal Code.

Dheeraj was arrested after he failed to respond to notices sent by police asking him to join investigation. Tokas too has been asked to join the probe and legal actions would be taken against her if she fails to do so.

In another complaint registered on December 18, a woman had approached RK Puram police station saying that Tokas and the party members went to her house during the demolition drive and abused her and her brother-in-law.

She claimed that Dheeraj had entered their house and hurled abuses relating to their caste.
