<p>A man arrested for raping a minor girl after kidnapping her from south-east Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar escaped from police custody on Thursday. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Raja, a resident of Jahangirpuri K-Block, has been booked under section 363 (kidnapping) and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code. He also faces charges under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. <br /><br />Police said his case was taken for trial in Saket court on June 26.<br /><br />“Raja was sent to three days’ police custody on Wednesday for verification of his native address,” a police officer said. <br /><br />He was scheduled to be taken to UP’s Saharanpur district by sub-inspector Rajveer and constables Shankar Lal and Kuldeep.<br /><br />“The accused was taken out of Lajpat Nagar police station’s lock-up at 8 pm. He was supposed to be taken to Saharanpur in a taxi,” the officer added.<br /><br />The three police officers then took Raja near 3C’s mall in Lajpat Nagar Phase-3. “We kept waiting there for a while as the taxi did not turn up,” said sub-inspector Rajveer.<br /><br />It is alleged that while waiting, Raja pushed constables Shankar and Kuldeep, and managed to break free from their grip. He ran towards a residential colony with the policemen chasing him.<br /><br />“Raja was pursued for some distance, but the officers failed to overpower him. He managed to escape.”<br /><br />A fresh case under section 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to lawful apprehension) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against Raja.<br /><br />He was yet to be found even till Friday evening. Police are conducting raids at his possible hideouts and hope to arrest him soon.</p>
