“We’ve already carried out a feasibility study and prepared the project details and design for the twin plants. But now Coal India has raised objection citing that there is a major coal bed underneath,” Videocon Group Chairman Venugopal Dhoot told reporters here on Tuesday after a meeting with Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacherjee.
This is the second time that CIL raised objection to a mega project in the same district on the plea of the coal bed. Earlier, CIL had opposed the Airport City project in Andal area of the district where Changi Airlines of Singapore decided to invest.
Videocon would require around 4,200 acre for the project, out of which it has got cabinet approval for 3,000 acre. The total investment was pegged at Rs 15,000 crore earlier, which Dhoot revised upwards later, saying that the total investment for the mega steel and power project might touch the level of Rs 21,000 crore.
