Hailing the GST as Good and Simple Tax, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday said the new regime will not only enhance the ease of doing business but change the way of doing business.

“The law may call it a Goods and Services Tax but it actually is Good and Simple Tax for India which binds traders from Ganganagar to Itanagar and from Leh to Lakshadweep.

Modi pitched GST as a tool of economic empowerment for poor and said besides being a tax reform, it is also an economic and a social reform for the country.

“In 2022 when India celebrates the 75th anniversary of independence, GST will play an important role to harbinger a new India,” he said.

Ahead of next year's assembly election in North-Eastern states, the prime minister said GST presents an important opportunity for eastern states. He also mentioned Orissa, West Bengal and Bihar in the same vein.

While thanking all political parties for the team effort to make GST to a reality, he urged people to stop rumour mongering about the new tax reform.
