The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is launching a drive ‘Bribe-free Karnataka’ as the Lokayukta institution continues to be headless due to the absence of Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao.

The programme will be a Direct Action Plan where AAP volunteers will proactively compel government officials to work without taking bribes and in case a bribe demand is reported, AAP will intervene by seeking explanations from such government offices and officials.

“The ideal institution, Lokayukta, which was considered the best anti-corruption body all over India, has now lost the trust of the people of Karnataka. The role of the Siddaramaiah government in transforming this able institution into a worthless, corrupt body is despicable. Lokayukta Bhaskar Rao has literally absented himself to escape from punishment for his crimes. The attempt of this government to fill the vacant Upalokayukta post with questionable candidates has been turned down twice and the post remains vacant till today,'” State convener of AAP, Ravikrishna Reddy, said adding that the AAP has been receiving complaints about demands of bribe.

“When we respond by asking them to report it immediately to the nearby Lokayukta, people retort by asking ‘Where is the Lokayukta?’ People who once looked upon Lokayukta for deliverance from bribe and corruption are today taking jibes at the same institution because of corrupt and incompetent officials,” he said.

As part of the ‘Bribe-free Karnataka’ drive, the AAP has organized a ‘Bribe-free Bangalore Week’ beginning October 13, 2015 till October 17, 2015. AAP volunteers will reach selected sub-registrar and RTO offices and ensure that the respective offices will work as service providers to citizens, without recourse to any bribe.
