BBMP's ‘Plog Run’ is a Guinness record

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Sunday officially received the Guinness Book of World Records certificate for the most plastic bottles (33,355.55 kg) collected for recycling in 12 hours.

On October 2, the BBMP, along with NGOs Go Native, Namma Nimma Cycle Foundation and Let’s Be The Change, conducted the Plog Run, a Swedish concept that encourages people to pick up litter (plastic) while running.

Joggers at 50 different in the city picked a whopping 33.4 tonnes of plastic litter, breaking the previous world record of 28.5 tonnes. Organisers of the event said that as many as 7,000 people took part in the event. PET bottles topped the list of items picked.
