HAL, CPWD ink deal for Tumakuru chopper plant

The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Central Public Works Department (CPWD) for the execution of the Stage-2 infrastructure development works at its greenfield helicopter factory in Tumakuru.

At the ongoing Aero India 2019, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed by G V S Bhaskar, Chief Executive Officer, Helicopter Complex, and Rajesh Jain, Chief Project Manager (CPM), HAL project zone, CPWD.

The Stage 2 works include the development of infrastructure for structural assembly and equipping of helicopters at Tumakuru.

The project will be executed in a phased manner.

3-tonne to 12-tonne classes

The new helicopter factory is coming up on a 615-acre greenfield campus. It is designed to be fully self-sufficient for manufacturing the full range of helicopters from 3-tonne to 12-tonne classes.

The facility will have manufacturing, structural assembly, final assembly-line facilities, a heli-runway, aerodrome, residential township for the staff, recreational facilities and a training centre.
