HC orders actor Yash's mother to pay rent dues

The Karnataka High Court upheld the civil court order directing Sandalwood actor Yash’s mother A Pushpa to pay unpaid house rent amounting to approximately Rs 23 lakh (inclusive of interest)

by December 31 after which she will be allowed to live in the disputed property till March 1, 2019.

If she fails to pay the rent, she will have to vacate the house by December 31.

A division bench comprising Justice A S Bopanna and Justice Sreenivas Harish Kumar was hearing a petition filed by Pushpa who had moved the court challenging the amount directed to be paid by the sessions court.

The 42nd city civil court in April 2018 had directed the actor’s mother to pay the rent dues amounting to approximately Rs 23 lakh. Pushpa has been accused of defaulting on rent of the house in Banashankari.

The actor’s mother had rented Dr M Muniprasad’s house at 5th Cross, 3rd Block, 3rd Phase, Banashankari in 2010.

There was an agreement to pay a monthly rent of Rs 40,000 for 11 months. Both the parties had agreed to renew the agreement after 11 months by mutual consent with an increase of five per cent in the rent.

Yash and his mother had paid the rent for 11 months but defaulted thereafter. The house owner had stated that Yash had kept him in the dark and spent money on renovating the house.

Muniprasad wanted to rent the house to a relative and had asked the actor to pay the remaining rent and vacate the house.

But the actor and his mother neither responded nor paid the rent following which he filed a complaint with the Girinagar police who did not intervene, saying it was a civil matter. Following this, the owner moved the court.

Yash made it big in Kannada films after moving into Muniprasad’s house and thus believed it brought him luck and success.

Thus he was unwilling to vacate it.
