Hoskote to get treated water from Bengaluru soon

Last Updated 23 December 2018, 06:15 IST

The minor irrigation department is planning to use treated water from the Vengaiahkere lake in KR Puram to fill thirty lakes and tanks in Hoskote Taluk.

This comes even as people are concerned about the quality of water being supplied to Kolar under the KC Valley Project.

According to a ToI report, the minor irrigation department has floated pre-qualification tenders for detailed survey, investigation and design of civil and electromechanical works. An engineer at the department said that the bids will open at the end of February and water will be released from an STP in Vengaiahkere.

An anonymous activist from Hoskote said that only water that has undergone tertiary treatment can be considered safe. Meanwhile, R Anjaneya Reddy of the Shashwatha Neeravari Horata Samiti expressed fear over the project, saying the government did not learn its lesson from KC Valley - but hoped that the government will be cautious in the Hoskote project.

Recently, local farmers in Kolar were stunned to see greenish-brown foamy water flowing into a canal that links Narasapura and Doddavallabi lakes under the KC Valley Project.
