Sitting MLA B N Vijayakumar collapsed while campaigning in Jayanagar on Thursday evening, and was rushed to the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research.

Vijayakumar (60) is the BJP's candidate from the Jayanagar constituency.

According to Dr C N Manjunath, director of the institute, Vijayakumar was brought to the hospital in an unresponsive state with no pulse.

"He has suffered multiple cardiac arrests. An angiogram and angioplasty were conducted. He is on ventilator, and in a critical condition," he said.

Last month, Vijayakumar had undergone a procedure in the same hospital, where a stent was inserted. He was advised rest. But after having rested for a few days, the MLA started campaigning for the May 12 elections.
