Maharani's College student found dead in hostel

A 21-year-old student at the Maharani's Arts College reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her hostel on the Palace Grounds on Saturday night.

M S Shruthi, the victim, was a final-year student and hailed from Srinivasapur taluk, Kolar district.

Police said Shruthi was alone in her room when the incident occurred. The suicide came to light on Sunday morning when the warden came on rounds and found her hanging from the ceiling fan.

In a text message on her mobile phone, she wrote that she alone was responsible for her death. She took a screenshot of the message and set it as the screen saver.

The phone has been sent for forensic examination. The body was handed over to parents after post-mortem at the Bowring Hospital.

Police are yet to ascertain the exact cause of death.
