Man blackmails wife with nude photos over dowry; booked

A man who blackmailed his wife was booked under the domestic violence act on Sunday.

Krishnamurthy (35), a resident of Girinagar, harassed his wife for more dowry, using pictures of her in the nude. He threatened her, saying he would post the pictures on social media if his dowry demands were not met.

The Girinagar police registered an FIR against Krishnamurthy after his wife filed a complaint of harassment and blackmail against him.

According to the complainant, she got married to Krishnamurthy in April 2017. He began demanding dowry within a few weeks.

“Even though we had given a huge sum of money at the time of the wedding, Krishnamurthy and his family kept forcing me to get more money and gold. Whenever I refused to meet their demands, he blackmailed me that he would upload my nude pictures on social media,” the victim said in her complaint.

A senior police officer told DH that they are investigating the issue. “We will also send the couple for counselling with a hope that they will overcome their problem and settle the dispute.”

The police have registered a case under 498(A) of the IPC against Krishnamurthy and his family, and are probing further.
