Mantri ordered to get fresh eco clearance for project

Last Updated 13 August 2018, 21:11 IST

The National Green Tribunal on Monday asked real estate developer Mantri Techzone Pvt Ltd to submit a fresh plan to the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA)-Karnataka within four weeks.

The green panel headed by Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said all the directions and conditions contained in its May 4, 2016, judgement on the buffer zone would be considered in the fresh environmental clearance. "The project will resume in continuous monitoring of (the) SEIAA subject to compliance of the directions contained in the NGT judgment," it said.

The issue pertains to construction in the buffer zone of Agara and Bellandur lakes.

A counsel for the NGO Namma Bengaluru Foundation argued that the environmental clearance had been rightly cancelled. "The environmental clearance was obtained for 72 acres by including encroached lakebed area and another private land when the actual project area was 63 acres," the NGO claimed.

The tribunal disposed of Mantri's appeal as well as that of the NGO.
