No metro on MG Road-Indiranagar stretch from today 8 pm

Last Updated 28 December 2018, 04:56 IST

The Metro operations between MG Road and Indiranagar station will be shut from 8 pm on December 28 to 30 (full day) during which repair works will be taken up to fix a problem in a pillar.

This will essentially divide the Purple Line into two segments with trains running on MG Road-Mysore Road and Indiranagar-Baiyappanahalli stretches.

Passengers travelling from MG Road have to get down at Indiranagar, board a bus provided by the BMRCL and reach MG Road Metro station from where they can travel till Mysore Road. On the return direction, passengers have to get down at MG Road and travel in bus till Indiranagar to reach Baiyappanahalli.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), which had earlier planned the repair work on December 22 and 23, postponed it for a week after concerns were raised that disruptions during Christmas rush will inconvenience a large number of passengers. “The BMRCL will run free bus services between Cubbon Park station and Baiyappanahalli Station on December 28 night and on 29 and 30. The bus services are planned for longer length for the convenience of commuters,” a release said.

Last week, officials found voids in part of a cross beam on a pillar near Trinity Metro Station. The corporation is now assessing the entire length of viaduct to find if similar problem has recurred elsewhere, which officials claim to be unlikely.
