The Congress party’s legal cell has filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau against the BJP MLA from Rajajinagar, S Suresh Kumar, accusing him of having illegal wealth.

Surya Mukundaraj, the secretary of the legal cell, on Saturday filed the complaint under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The complaint states that Kumar bought a house, estimated to be valued at Rs 1.46 crore, in Sharada Colony, Basaveshwaranagar, and paid Rs 11.85 lakh as registration charges and stamp duty for the property.

To purchase the house, Kumar borrowed Rs 15 lakh from one Nagaraj and Rs 6 lakh from another man named Narayan.

In December 2009, he sold a house registered in the name of his mother Susheelamma and his daughter for Rs 22 lakh. He had bought that property for only Rs 1.68 lakh. Within 21 months, Kumar’s assets rose by 654.76%, the complaint said.

According to Kumar’s election affidavit and nomination papers, he and his family repaid a loan of Rs 38.27 lakh until March 2013 and saved Rs 15.13 lakh. In 2013, however, he declared an income of Rs 22.92 lakh. The complaint also accused him of undervaluing the value of his house in Basaveshwaranagar.

Kumar was not available for comment.
