A woman constable attached to Yelahanka police station has earned appreciation after she breastfed a newborn abandoned by parents on January 16.

Sangeetha S Halimani (25), the mother of a 10-month-old baby, volunteered to nurse the infant.

A passer-by noticed the infant crying from the bushes at the GKVK Compound near Thindlu on Wednesday morning. They alerted the Yelahanka police, and the baby was rushed to the government hospital. Sangeetha was also the part of the police team that rushed the baby to the hospital.

The baby did not stop crying despite being given glucose. Meanwhile, Sangeetha felt that the baby was crying to be breastfed, and nursed the baby after which it stopped crying.

Later, the baby was shifted to Vanivilas hospital. Doctors, the police department and others have lauded Sangeetha for her care.

The Yelahanka police have registered a complaint and are searching for the parents of the baby.
